The exhaust system of all-steel fume hoods can be divided into two types: centralized and decentralized.

        In the early stage of laboratory design and planning, one must consider an issue related to the future development layout of the laboratory. In order to prevent some vapors, gases and particles (smoke, soot, dust and aerosols) from absorbing pollutants, perhaps some toxic substances, fume hoods, hoods or local ventilation methods must be used to clean them. They do not interfere with each other, can easily meet the predetermined effect, and save energy than the centralized type. Since the decentralized system is small and the exhaust volume is also small, the air volume and wind pressure of the equipment are not large, and the noise and vibration are correspondingly small. Another advantage of the decentralized type is that it is easy to handle the discharge of harmful gases of different properties. But it also has its limitations: there are many ventilators and many systems. If the ventilators are centralized in the computer room, the cost of laboratory construction will be increased. However, all-steel fume hoods are distributed and installed on-site. Although the investment in ventilators increases, the investment in air ducts can be saved, and the total cost estimate will not be much different.
